Saturday July 17

The nurses came around bright and early to do whatever nurses do. Sam's feeling fine, admiring some bruises! We had a pretty good breakfast around 8:00, then waited, and waited some more until, finally, the doctor showed up. He explained all that he did during the procedure and gave Sam final instructions and gave her some scripts for medications (which MUST be filled today!)

Finally, around noon, Sam was discharged. First stop was a Walgreens, only to find out that their pharmacy was closed on Saturdays! We found another one in Woodburn so while they filling the order we got a lunch to go from Arby's. We were going to Pendleton, taking the scenic route. We didn't really want to go that far today but all the hotels in the Hood River/Dalles area seemed to be fully booked.

We passed some interesting territory. The White Falls Dam State Park, featuring a hydro project that operated from 1901 to 1963. From there one goes down into the Deschutes River Canyon - spectacular!

We joined I-84 at Biggs Junction and arrived at a crummy Red Lion in Pendleton around 8:00. For supper, we scrounged for what was left in the cooler.

Home tomorrow, where its 100 degrees!

I didn't realize Rt 20 originates in Newport, OR!

This is a family trip to the "Coast". Janet has arranged for a house to rent in Waldport, supposedly with good access to the beach...
